UniProtKB description:  Plays a role in host cell apoptosis modulation by promoting TP53/p53 ubiquitination and subsequent degradation and thus down-regulating TP53/p53-mediated apoptosis (PubMed:19369353). Works as a potential viral transcription factor to modulate host gene expression to build favorable environments for the viral lytic life cycle and greatly accelerates the induction of an immediate early gene RTA, early genes ORF36 and ORF57, late genes ORF25 and ORF64, and latent genes LANA1 and v-IRF3 (PubMed:24335298). Inhibits host interferon-alpha production by interacting with host IRF7 and preventing IRF7 dimerization (PubMed:28342865).
