UniProtKB description:  Esterase that catalyzes the hydrolysis of ethyl acetate (PubMed:17351032). Involved in the degradation of short chain methyl ketones (MEK) such as 2-butanone and 2-hexanone (PubMed:17351032). In vitro, can also hydrolyze vinyl acetate, 4-nitrophenyl acetate, methyl acetate, propyl acetate, benzyl acetate and methyl propionate (PubMed:17351032). The highest activities are obtained with acetic acid esters, but the alcohol group also plays an important role, as compounds with two carbon atoms in the alcohol moiety, i.e., vinyl and ethyl acetate, are by far the preferred substrates (PubMed:17351032).
