UniProtKB description:  The phosphoenolpyruvate-dependent sugar phosphotransferase system (sugar PTS), a major carbohydrate active transport system, catalyzes the phosphorylation of incoming sugar substrates concomitantly with their translocation across the cell membrane. This system is involved in D-mannitol transport (PubMed:368051, PubMed:6427236, PubMed:2123863). Also able to use D-mannonic acid (PubMed:6427236).
